QUESTION TWO:

- How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Our media product represents particular social groups in various different ways. Our opening sequence is was intended to be appealing to the social groups of unpopular teens, antisocial people and geeks who prefer to spend their time in the comforts of their own house and on the computer discovering 'short cuts' of school life, rather than revising for a test. Although it is not shown in the opening sequence, the later narrative is intended to highlight the the silver linings of this personality within these social groups. We are able to represent these social groups through clothing, body language and positioning of character.

Firstly, The clothing shown in the directors cut of the opening shows that the character is wearing a superman jumper, this is because superheroes and comic book characters are commonly linked with geeks and we wanted the audience to become aware of the characters personality and identify him as apart of a geeky social group, which would make him more relatable.

As well as clothing, we have used body language. and by that I mean how the only movements he makes aside from typing on the computer is reaching into his draw for a bag of Doritos and a memory stick, which he puts into the computer. This represents our intended social groups as he manages to isolate himself from everything around him apart from his computer. Linking on from this is the positioning of the character, he is sat in the centre of the room which emphasises on how he  is separated from everyone else. This fits the criteria of the geek and antisocial social groups who the public generally picture as lonely.

We are trying to represent our character in a way that will allow the audience to picture the narrative, which will help the audience gain interest and hopefully make them want to watch the rest of the film. The opening is also done so that the audience can question the characters intentions are engage them to watch more.
